Case Study: The Brookings Institution

Challenge

There may be no more highly regarded research and policy think tank in the world than the Brookings Institution.

For nearly a century, the organization's publications and forums have represented some of the most influential and expert thinking on national and international current affairs. Yet many of the organization's publications, reports and other materials clearly no longer reflected Brookings' enduring relevance and world-class stature.

Solution

The goal of this extensive engagement was to produce a new series of regional reports, together with new program overview media, which would clearly communicate contemporary relevance while respecting the organization's proud history of serious scholarship.

For the Asian division, rich, subdued photography and color palettes were researched and selected based on local cultures and current regional political tensions and public sensitivities.

The resulting new graphics standards and publications were enthusiastically received both among Brookings' global network of scholars, officials and press as well as in the organization's larger public communications initiatives.
