Challenge

In a recent New York Time's article on Asia's growing dominance in math education, a prominent Indian mathematician was asked how the U.S. might improve its test scores.

He suggested more Americans use The Math Forum.

Globally recognized as the preeminent K-12 online resource for teaching and learning mathematics, The Math Forum had evolved organically since its inception in the early '90s with the support of a dedicated group of university mathematics professors and K-12 teachers. As the project grew in international prestige and visibility, however, it became increasingly clear that this thriving, sprawling online community was in real need of some professional planning and design.

Solution

This was a fascinating and deeply satisfying engagement for this closet mathematician. Through a careful, collaborative process, The Math Forum branding, website, digital communications, and print collateral were transformed through the application of best practices in identity design, interactive architecture and design standards, and user experience.

This process involved a deep-dive into the complexities of student and educator needs, as well as resource restraints and requirements for this truly homegrown, global educational resource. Work then moved to the iterative design and development of an attractive new identity system, a new information architecture, interface design, and user experience optimization for the organization’s web presence and interactive program. The engagemen further involved the creation of new, branded design standards for related print marketing communications materials.
